Part of the story of modern male sexual dysfunction is not simply that something has gone wrong with men's penises, but that something has changed dramatically in the way men are living inside their bodies.
Mainstream wellness talk does not include very often mens pelvic health issues, and even rarely even acknowledges that it is the centre of so many issues for men…. and most men I talk to are not even aware of their perineum muscle let alone the other 25 muscles in the pelvis.
I was reading an article last week where a woman was sharing that during a structural integration training, around 40 (male) models came in for cranial work. When they shared their experiences afterward, what they talked about was pelvic pain, tension, scar tissue and numbness. Many of these men were military veterans and had never received thoughtful, skilled care for what they were experiencing.
And if you listened to my podcast episode with Jana Danielson ( HERE ) you would have heard us speak about how issues such as ED and PE are often directly associated with the lack of health in the pelvis.
Somewhere along the way, men stopped moving in the way their bodies were built to move. Over the last century, physical labour, walking, squatting, climbing, lifting and working outdoors have increasingly been replaced by chairs, cars, offices and screens. A man's pelvis can now spend more of its life folded, compressed and relatively inactive than moving freely through the world.
Maybe I wont go as far as to say that sitting alone caused the rise in erectile dysfunction, pelvic problems or premature ejaculation…but….it would be naïve to imagine this dramatic change in how men live has had no consequences.
Sexual function is not isolated from the rest of the body. It depends on circulation, cardiovascular health, nervous-system regulation, muscular coordination and a pelvic floor that can both contract and relax. When the body becomes sedentary, stressed and disconnected from its natural movement patterns, the pelvis does not somehow escape the consequences.
Inside of FULLY CHARGED my mens 6 week program starting this coming Thursday the 13th, one entire call is devoted to your Pelvis. The last time I held a mens group program so many of the men were blown away how little they had ever given time to this area of their body and loved the practice I took them through.
Lovers… your pelvic floor is not separate from the rest of life. It holds tension from trauma, from sitting all day, from stress, surgery, injury, and the weight of being human in a male body. And that tension does not just stay and hang out in the pelvis. It moves outward, affecting your posture, your breathing, your sexual function, and how a you experiences your own body.
I did a search before writing this email and this is what I found on Men’s pelvic health …
Pelvic floor dysfunction in men and how tension affects erectile function, ejaculation, and sensation
Post-surgical recovery for prostate, bladder, and hernia procedures—where pelvic floor rehab speeds healing
Pain patterns that radiate from a restricted pelvis into the lower back, hips, and legs
Trauma storage in the pelvic floor and how releasing it changes everything
Intimacy and how a healthy pelvis improves sexual function and connection
Yet most men still don’t know this is even an option.
Inside of FULLY CHARGED. one entire class is a set of practices that I will take you through plus you receive a bonus video on a mens pelvic yoga sequence a friend filmed for my clients years ago when I lived in Puerto Escondido.
