Women in their 50's & 60's

The attention economy is not something so passive or neutral.

This economy is not a platform or some kind of tool. It is a machine that runs on one thing and one thing only. Your feeling that you are not quite enough yet.

Not thin enough.

Not young enough.

Not healed enough.

Not successful enough.

Not glowing enough, calm enough, sexually confident enough, spiritually evolved enough. Not the right kind of raw and not the right kind of neutral toned.

This machine needs you in that awkward uncertain place.. This gap between who you are and who you are supposedly becoming. Because the gap is where you buy things, where you endlessly scroll and consume content, products, courses filled with promises to get there. All of them offering to close the distance between you and the version of yourself that would finally feel like enough.

But…a satisfied woman is a bad customer.

And this is why women in their 50s and 60s are the most dangerous thing the attention economy has ever encountered.

Because she has been through enough cycles to see it all… and just not give a flying f*ck anymore.

She has bought the thing that was going to fix her. She has waited for the relationship, the body, the career, the milestone and waited for it to make her feel enough. And at some point …not within a single epiphany, but more so in the accumulated heavy weight of decades she understood that it was never going to come from the ever goal shifting outside.

You see… we in these ages, just stopped waiting.

And a woman who has stopped waiting is not a good target.

She buys what she actually wants, not what she is told she should want. She follows people who interest her, not people who make her feel inadequate by comparison. She has strong opinions about what she will and will not spend her time on. She creates from what she knows…which is considerable btw, rather than from what is trending. She eat swhat the hell she wants, she stays up late, makes love to whom shs pleases and wears what the f*ck she wants.

She cannot be easily sold to because she knows herself too well.

She cannot be easily scared because she has already survived the thing she was most afraid of. and usually more than once.

She is not performing for a phantom audience and this terrifies the machine.

So the machine adapted.

And its adaptation is elegant, I will give it that…..

If you cannot sell to her through the usual insecurities of not pretty enough, not thin enough or not desirable enough, then you make her feel that she has aged out of the conversation entirely.

You make her invisible.

You make the entire cultural apparatus of relevance point toward youth. You build your platforms on the attention of 25-year-olds, you make her feel that her age is the problem, and then (this is the genius move ) you sell her the solution to her own invisibility.

Anti-ageing.

Not ageing and honouring into her wisdom and power..but ageing backwards. Looking 40 at 60 is the new black and competing on the young woman’s terrain using the young woman’s currency.

A woman who is chasing youth is not dangerous at all. She is just a different kind of customer and once again distracted.

The trick is not that the attention economy ignores women in their 50s and 60s. The trick is actually that it convinced them to ignore themselves. Their actual incredible selves, their actual bodies and of course their actual desires, in favour of a version of themselves that is younger, smoother, and easier to sell to.

Not every woman in her 50s or 60s has escaped this.

Many have not.

Many are still trying to compete on terms that were never designed for them. Still apologizing for taking up space, still making themselves smaller in rooms where they are the most interesting person there ( like seriously )

The attention economy won that round.

And I understand why. Fifty years of being told that your value is located in your youth, your body, your desirability and your reproductive capacity….fifty years of that does not dissolve because you blew out another set of candles.

But something does shift for these women and it shifts whether they want it to or not. The energy that used to go into being presentable and on show starts to redirect. Into being alive. Into knowing what you actually think, what you actually want, what your body actually feels when no one is looking.

This redirection is where the danger is.

A woman who is no longer primarily organized around being seen is operating from an entirely different centre of gravity. She is harder to manipulate because she is less afraid of and not seeking disapproval. She is harder to control because she is less afraid of being left alone as it actually brings more peace to her. She is a more honest friend, a more demanding lover, a more creative thinker, and a far more interesting person to be in a room with.

This is the work I do with women.

Not convincing you to be confident.

Confidence is a feeling …it comes and goes. What I am pointing at is deeper than that.

It is the difference between a woman whose pleasure is mediated by other people’s opinions and a woman whose pleasure is entirely her own.

Between a woman who has been waiting for permission to want what she wants and a woman who has stopped waiting.

Between a woman the attention economy can still capture and a woman it cannot.

Your body at 50 or 60, at whatever age you are reading this, is not declining. It is asking you something different than it asked you at 30. It is asking you to know it more precisely. To want more specifically. To stop tolerating what you have been tolerating and go directly toward what you actually desire.

That is not ageing.

That is regen-opause gorgeous woman

And a woman in regen-opause who knows what she wants… is…..Uncapturable.
